The Wellness Center provides a safe supportive environment on the AHS campus where students can go to discuss a variety of issues. Through both on-campus programming and community-based partnerships, students receive coordinated counseling and other support services to maximize student engagement and success. Outreach services and support are provided on the AMS and FAA campuses.
Atascadero High School’s Wellness Center is open to all students during the school day for individual and group counseling on a scheduled and drop-in basis, and after school for family counseling and parent/care giver education. Counseling at the Wellness Center is brief, generally 6-8 sessions, focusing on destigmatizing mental health and the counseling process. Students and families learn stress management/emotional regulation skills, relationship and communication skills, and are supported as they identify strengths and build resilience. Groups are formed based on student needs and interests.
Wellness Center Coordinator, Kamela Proulx, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and holds a Pupil Personnel Services credential. Kamela coordinates services, and supervises the counseling provided by pre-licensed therapists. Additional opportunities provided by the Wellness Center include a variety of club meetings, campus-wide events (such as our annual Art and Poetry Calendar Contest), and special speakers and events.
