Project Ideas

• Have students draw a picture with things with names that begin with a particular letter sound.  Students can also record themselves saying the names of what they have drawn (which may not be as clear just from the drawings).
• Read students a story and have them draw a picture to show a character, setting, and/or major event in the story.  Students may add audio and/or text describing the character, setting, or event.
• After sharing a science concept with students, have them create a picture to show what they know, then add an audio and/or text explanation.

Tech Basics

Keep it safe: Carry portable equipment by hugging it like you love it. Use two hands and hold it close to your body.

Keep it clean: Keep screen clean by not putting your fingers on the screen. A soft cotton or microfiber cloth can be used to gently wipe it. Don't use cleaners on your screen. If absolutely necessary, let an adult use a soft cloth that is barely damp to wipe the screen.

Keep it charged: Show students how to plug in laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads when they are not being used so that they are ready for next time.

Typing Skills: 1st grade students don't need to learn keyboarding use a formal typing program. As they are using other apps, they can practice finding letters and numbers on the keyboard and using the shift key to type capital letters.
